Day 1 - Virginia's Natural Resources and You
Objective:
Student will recognize and name three or more ways Virginia's Natural resources benefits them personally.
Materials:
Pencils
Paper
Brochures from around the state on various topics (farming, hiking, fishing, state parks, etc).
Scissors
Magazines
Lesson Overview:
Gather the children for a read aloud with the book "The Very First Americans" by Cara Ashrose and discuss the way the Native Americans lived off the land. Compare and contrast to how we live today.
Activity:
Children will break into group of two to create a brochure on a topic of their choice. The brochure is to include the following: Cover Page clearly stating the topic, introduction to the topic, where you can find the topic in the state of Virginia, why it's beneficial, and how it can be protected.
Assessment:
The teacher will listen and write down the examples the students give on the board or chart paper. The teacher will also walk around the room and listen in on small group discussions of what Virginia has to offer. Students in small groups will present their brochure to the class.
