Day 5 - Resources: Natural vs. Man-Made
Objective:
Students will read a familiar story and categorize the resources of the story.
Materials:
"The Three Little Pigs" by Paul Galdone
Construction Paper
Pencils
Scissors
Glue
Lesson Overview:
Read out loud The Three Little Pigs. Discuss the events in the story. Write students’ responses on the board to these questions:
What do you know about straw? About wood? About brick? (where did it come from) What's Natural and what's Man Made?
What additional items are needed to build the houses?
Take this information into our life. What are the basic necessities of life (food, shelter, water). Have children list what they think is natural and man made.
Activity and Assessment:
Students will create a foldable, pasting examples of Natural Resources and writing examples of many different ways we have used them (the Man-Made Resources). This will be in their ISN (Interactive Science Notebook). Click here for the terms and here for an example of the foldable. I used only the top four terms because they are the most relevant to the information in the SOL.
